As many of you know, I have been learning a lot about my camera and how to capture special moments. In the recent weeks, I have shared some of my favorite photos in my shop, and have been blessed to have the opportunity to take some pictures of other people besides Kev and the boys.
I didn't share this at the time, but part of the reason for our visit to Washington last week was to visit with our brother in law before he deploys overseas until next year. My nephews are 5, 3 1/2 and 18 months.
And while I know this is the new 'normal' for many military families, it still makes me sad that these boys will be missing their dad (and Beth will be missing her husband) for the greater part of a year. So when my sister in law asked if I would try and capture a few pictures of the boys and Josh, I was thrilled at the opportunity.
Here is Brock. He is the middle boy and such a strong spirit. This picture, I think, encompasses his personality: confident, curious and always looking up, toward what he can conquer next.
He is fearless, but still loves a hand from his equally strong and amazing Mommy.
And here is the best picture of captured of Brock and Josh. I can feel them coming up with an adventurous plan by putting their heads together.
Next was baby Colt, except that he really isn't a baby, he is a mini-toddler doing his best to be a big boy like his brothers. He also is a junior Josh, red hair and all.
Colt is tougher than any other 18 month old I know, but also very in love with his Mommy and Daddy. Look at those grins, that is good stuff.
The oldest is Cade, mature and insightful for his few years. He makes his Daddy laugh.
And challenges him to take that extra leap.
But Cade is also very mindful of when it is time to be quiet and reflect.
So do me a favor and pray for my sweet sister in law and her family and they endure their separation.
I'm sure Beth would not only appreciate your prayers, but lots of comments about how cute her family is. Because that makes any Mom's day.
While we are on the topic, did you know Military Wives are some of the strongest women in the world? Please take some time to visit some of my favorites:

Holy cow Kate! You are no beginner with the camera, girl. Those are so professional! They are SUCH a beautiful family that I know it made your job photographing them that much easier. ;) And I have a very very soft spot for the sweet little redheads ;) He looks like such a happy little guy!
Praying for your SIL and her boys as well as your BIL's safety while deployed. And um, if you happen to be in the Middle Of Nowhere anytime soon, maybe you could come take pictures of my family and make me look half as skinny and pretty as your SIL. Thaaaaaaanks ;)
Beautiful photos! I have so much respect and admiration for military families.
Please know I'm adding your sister & brother-in-law Josh to our prayer list, as well as their precious boys. I'm so incredibly grateful to him (to them all actually) for his service & sacrifice. Please extend my prayers, gratitude & best wishes for a safe, speedy return home. Wishing you all a very blessed Easter!
such beautiful photographs Kate, I hope your brother in law has a safe deployment. Wishing them all well
These are spectacular Kate, truly. Each photo has a personality shining through it!
I'll keep the whole family in my prayers - I can't imagine what that kind of separation must be like, but what a blessing for the boys to have their brothers and their mama to have her boys :)
oh this is such a wonderful, beautiful sentiment! I hope he stays safe over there & I'm sure those pictures will help your family while the times goes by.
I feel for them, I respect them, and my prayers are with this lovely family.
What an absolutely gorgeous family and you captured some truly beautiful pictures of them all!! What special memories they will have to cherish whilst he is away. I hope he returns to them safe and sound and in no time at all. I loved what you wrote at the bottom, and it is very true.
Great pics and I will be sure to pop over to visit your SIL :)
Is there a link to her blog?
An absolutely beautiful family. I am loving the red hair...since my hubby is a red head and Holden was when he was born...still kind of is...not really sure what color his is at the moment! ;)
Military spouses are DEFINITELY some of the strongest women in the world. I often think about them when I am sad and missing my hubby because he's been gone for 12 HOURS...I can't imagine him being gone for months or a year. I don't know how they do it....but I admire them SO much!
Your photography talents are amazing...of course, hard to take a bad picture with such beautiful subjects.
They are all in my prayers!
you took some really amazing photos of such a cute family... I'm sure these will be some of their favorites to look back on :)
