how did you know you were ready to have kids??? -Tiffany
Kev and I never talked about not having kids. We knew we wanted to have a big family and to be young parents. We are both really good at living within our means, so we weren't worried about the financial side of things and we agreed early on that I would stay home until our kids are school aged. Most of all, we felt that there was nothing bigger or greater in the world that we could do other than raise a family. So we did, and have never felt like we missed out on a thing, in fact I am more fulfilled because of it. Having children is such a blessing and has made Kev and I such a better couple. That is my long answer.
The short answer: once I started noticing pregnant women everywhere. Happened with both boys, I swear pregnant people started following me and then it clicked that I was ready for a baby.
Do you think more babies are in the works? Do you love having boys or secretly wish you had a little girl? -Eliza
There will be a #3, but not yet. When my weekend reviews no longer involve drinking wine, or I start mentioning that preggos seam to be stalking me, you'll know somethings up. I love, love, love having boys and would totally ok with a 3rd. We didn't find out with either Cullen or Bennett beforehand what they were and I was so happy each time. It would be wonderful to have a girl, but I would be perfectly content with a house full of boys.
What inspired your boys' names? -Heather
In my head, I had decided that Cullen was going to be a girl, so for 9 months, we called my belly 'Nora Scott' (what a darling little southern belle she was). About 2 weeks before he was born, we realized that we really needed to come up with a boy's name just in case. On my original list that we made when I first found out I was pregnant, I had written Cullen after watching a Clemson football game; their quarterback was Cullen Harper and I thought it was a great name. It is Irish for handsome and went great with James, which we had already decided on for a middle name. I had no idea it was also the name of the vampire family in Twilight, I didn't find that out until after he was born. I loathe when people ask me if I named him after that series.
Bennett I thought was a boy the whole time, so we talked about boys names a little sooner that time. I always liked the name 'Ben' but didn't want to use Benjamin, so I looked up other names like it. We fell in love with Bennett and we never discussed anything else. He's my little Bennett (or Bubba, which is actually what he thinks his name is) and I think it suits him just right. His middle name is Paul after my grandfather.
What is the most surprising thing you've learned so far about being a mom? -Heather
This is a great question and I had to think about it for a while. I think, especially as the boys get older, I am surprised by how many of my parents' actions make sense. You know all those time you hated your parents for their rules or opinions or thought that you were really good at tricking them? Turns out, all those rules were for a reason, many of their opinions were right and they actually spent a great deal of time tricking us. Kev and I spend a lot of time talking about the type of parents we want to be and are so grateful for 4 wonderful role models to help us figure it all out.

| Plus, my boys hold each other's hand in the car. I didn't even know that until I was sitting in the back of the car when my father in law was in town. Be still my heart. |

I LOVE that photo of them holding hands!! Omg! What sweet boys!! And you are one of those pretty pregnant people that makes me sick, little basketball tummy and everything. I'm still over here stepping on the scale all confused like, The baby came out 3 weeks ago! Why have I not dropped 50lbs yet?
Mine and Steve's goal was also to be young parents (achieved!) although not in a Teen Mom kind of way. Would rather raise and chase kids while we're young and stupid and full of energy.
Ok I think I'm done hijacking your comments.
Such sweet answers, Kate :)
This is so sweet - and you are so beautiful in your preggo glory :)

I adore your boys names, I think they are very unique and handsome sounding. Can you sound handsome? Anyway, I like them :)
And those pics of them are precious!!
I'm super excited that you wrote this!!! I always wondered when I would know that I am ready to have a baby... Pregnant woman stalking me would make sense. LOL! I love the boys namnes, although anytime I do hear the name Cullen my first instinct is to think Twilight, so sorry for that. Don't loathe it! I do heart Twilight. =) PS - you saying 'tricking' made me snicker every time you said it. So true!
xoxo
A-
Great answers.
The photo of them holding hands gave me chills. No lie.
I also LOVE your names! I'm also loving these questions posts...may have it try it out myself! Have a great day:)
I've enjoyed reading these Kate- and love that pic of you at the biltmore!!
Great answers, Kate! Reading your replies to my questions and the others definitely makes me feel excited to have children someday. That is too crazy about people associating Cullen's name with Twilight, too. I never would have thought of that, probably because I'm not a huge fan of that series!
So sweet...I love finding out the reasons behind kids names!
That picture of the boys meeting for the first time, my god! That's enough to make my ovaries freak out a little. So sweet, I love Cullen's long eyelashes!
umm.. ok your answer about having babies and noticing pregnant women everywhere, that is happening to me right now, how do i deal with this? have a baby or wear a blindfold everwhere i go?
Love the shot of you while pregnant; you're a beauty. Love this idea of answering questions. I love how your boys hold hands while in the car - soo sweet!
Great questions, and great answers! I laughed when I read your response about noticing all of the pregnant women around you -- I've been doing the same thing, but I think there's just a major baby boom going on -- especially on my Facebook feed! :)
Oh gosh, yes to that last one. Ethan just began playing with Kids in the Neighborhood, like one actually comes and knocks on our door to see if he can play every afternoon, and we are already having conversations with him and arguments with him EXACTLY like ones I and my brother had with my parents.
Now I understand:
1) Why they hated us asking if a friend could come over when that friend was standing right there.
2) Why they cut off play sessions when they could hear things getting to shouty or irritable twixt us kids.
3) Why they had "reservations" about certain "friends."
"Friends don't hit or break your toys or make you cry," we said to Ethan tonight. "But he's my friend," he replied.
This is a minefield, this thing where your kid has friends.
Thanks for answering my question doll.!!!! It was really touching and made perfect sense. Almost makes me want to drop everything and start a family. Like I said almost, still not quite there yet, but I understand you never are fully ready or "there".
I assumed you didn't name Cullen after Twilight! I really like the name too, so it's kind of unfortunate to have everyone automatically think of "vampire". I just think it sounds old-fashioned and all boy :)
I love that last photo! You have such a beautiful family Kate! I really love that you share so much of them with us, they're so amazing!
