Wednesday morning, 7:22am:
not yet a whole cup of hot coffee has hit my belly yet but because I have been up since 5:45 (thanks Wells) and have cleaning ladies coming at 8 (thanks Kev) so I am occupied picking up a few lasts minute things.
I walk into my basement to switch some laundry and out of the corner of my eye see a weird piece of fabric right next to my toes...except its moving...because it is not a piece of fabric but a harmless garden snake
giant lady-eating Amazon python!
giant lady-eating Amazon python!
I yelp, jump back, exit the basement and lock the door (snakes are really good at doorknobs, good thinking Kate) and go upstairs and grab a lacrosse stick.
I'm not sure what I was planning on doing with said lacrosse stick, but it was that or the swiffer, so I chose the thing with a net-ish top.
I return to the basement door, unlock it, and enter to see just an inch of wiggly slimy tail heading under my dryer. So I access the situation (still armed with my lacrosse stick) and try to lift my dyer (note to self: more push ups).
Then I start to feel really squirmy and bothered by the creature lurking in my basement so I do what any strong, independent, self sufficient woman with a deployed husband would do...
I call my dad on the verge of tears whining like a 14 year old girl.
And because my dad is awesome, he was at my doorstep within 10 minutes armed with work gloves, a flashlight and a shovel (oooooh, those are the tools you need) and after another few minutes I heared a loud TWACK and a request for paper towels.
Moral of the story: Fritz is a hero.

Best. Blog. Ever! I was dying laughing, knowing of course I would 100% do so many of the same things! hahaha! I am so glad you didn't get eaten and you are safe and sound! ;) Phew!
I would have DIED!!!! I don't to snakes, I barley can handle the littlest bug in my line of sight!!!!
Oh my gosh. Hilarious! I would have done the same thing hahaha.
Oh my gosh, I've never seen a snake around here and would totally freak out if I did! You're so lucky your dad was close by and able to come help. He's a hero for sure!
Hahaha! I totally would have done the same thing. Thank goodness for brave dads.
Oh my gosh!!! Yep would have done pretty much the exact same things! That's a deployment story for the books!
Haha yup I would have done the same thing!
What a nice dad you've got!
Oh my gosh! I would have been calling someone too! My mom killed most of the snakes at home when I was growing up. And growing up in houses where yards butted up to fields meant a lot of snakes. My favorite snake killing story was when she went and hopped on the riding mower, lowered the deck down as far as it would go, and chased the snake. Our yard looked amazing! ;-) But seriously, I don't know how she killed all those things. I would have peed my pants every time!
Oh heck no. Glad your dad was local. I would have called too if I could!
See, this just makes me feel better about arming myself with a can of dry shampoo when a moth gets into my apartment… I need to get a lacrosse stick in case I need back up. Or get Fritz on my speed dial.
Eeeeek! I would have freaked out!
Gah! Worst nightmare! We had a black snake hanging around outside our house but close to the house. The hubby finally caught and took care of him but I was so worried I'd find him in the basement. Also, so happy you get to have your house cleaned. You will love it!!
I don't think I would have even entered into the basement again, call dad, yes that's exactly what I would have done too.
HAhaha! Harmless garden snake or not, I totally squealed right along with you!
This is too funny b/c we had a similar scenario last week. Okay, our neighbor two houses up is deathly afraid of snakes. JJ loves them. She knows this. She came over asking if he could get it out of their yard (it wasn't even in their house) but he wasn't home. I sent him a text and he said "put something over it, I'll hurry home, I want that snake!" He hurried home but it was after 9:00 and dark outside. The snake had climbed up the tree at this point and two other neighbors had been at it for an hour just trying to find the darn thing. JJ spotted it within about 3 minutes, got a ladder, climbed the tree, and had that thing down in no time. It sat in a bucket in our garage for two days before he let it go but thank goodness it didn't become our new family pet!! If it had been anything other than a black snake, I know he would have kept it. Glad your daddy was able to come to your rescue!! :)
This makes me skiddish every time I go into our basement. haha YAY for your dad!
I'm super behind on all blog commenting so just caught up on Kev's deployment etc. You are SO strong!! I already don't know how you handle those boys so well and I'm sure you can rise to this occasion too, especially with family nearby.
And as for the snake thing, I threw up a little in my mouth at the request for paper towels. Blech. Dads are the best!
I'll need you to send Fritz to my house next time I see a slug. I CANNOT stand slugs and I feel like he could put them in their spot aka the trash can.
This was hilarious!
Oh my goodness, what a crazy story! I would have screamed!!!
