Free Fallin'

We all know by now how excited I was for a real change in seasons this year and this Fall has already brought so many wonderful memories for my family.

However, yesterday afternoon was one of those unexpectedly perfect ones. No big event necessary, just a leaf pile- easily the season's greatest gift to children.

Wells loves being outside, which is a good thing since we are always out there weather permitting. He also loves to sit like this and look around, which is funny because both of the other boys hated tummy time. 

How much does it look like he knows exactly what is going on and that he wants to be part of it?

 So serious. (So much cheek.)

I'm Actually Sore From Dancing

On Saturday night, we attended the wedding of our friends James and Cristin and it was hands down the most fun I've had in a long time. 

The combination of a beautiful ceremony, followed by good food, fun music, an open bar, time with friends I've known for 15 years and the fact that we got to stay the night out kidless turned out to be the recipe for a more than perfect evening.

I look a handful of pictures during the cocktail hour, then was too busy chatting (thanks to everyone who said they read the blog- I love hearing that!), drinking and dancing to pull my phone back out.

 Table 11- it was like the lunch room all over again, except with wine and fancier clothes... and no one on the microphone telling us to tuck in our shirts and push our trash down.

On Sunday morning, while Kev left the hotel early to person volunteer with the wear blue: run to remember group at the Marine Corps Marathon (he's a better person than all of us, I know), I lay in bed, ordered room service and watched bad TV until housekeeping told me it was time to check out. I missed by boys, but not going to lie, it was kind of amazing. Big thanks to my parents for keeping them until the late afternoon and to Bummy and Leen for picking up Wells right before the wedding so I didn't have to be away from him too long. It takes a village and I am so grateful for ours!

Taking Stock

Making: sugar cookies for playgroup cookie decorating party, during which Bennett kind of took over the decorating.

Cooking: homemade chicken stock for soup 

Drinking: water until 5, wine after, duh.

Reading: ugh, nothing right now. remember when I was going to read two books in October? I've read one and can't get going on another. Thinking about picking up the last Divergent book but I had wanted to re-read Insurgent first and it never came off hold from the library (book nerd problems).

Wanting: some black wedge booties. Send me links.

Looking: forward to an awesome wedding weekend for our friends' James and Cristin!

Playing: Pirates

Wasting: time blogging instead of exercising. I'm working out my mind, right? Let's go with it. (My dresses that I want to wear to the wedding do not agree.)

Sewing: my machine is still in a box somewhere. Maybe I'll have time to take it out again one day.

Wishing: for a full night's sleep...which I'll get Saturday after the wedding because we are leaving Wells (and the big boys) with my parents for the whole night. Yatchzee!

You've Been Boo'ed (Year Two)

During the first year of our life in Monterey, our friend Tina started the "Boo-ing" tradition around our neighborhood. After she moved, we decided to continue the trend last year and this year, since we are in a new place, we brought it around again.

The premise of the 'Boo' is to put together two baskets of Halloween goodies,

Pick a two neighbor's houses to drop the treats off (along with the printable Boo poem and Ghost),

Bring the treat to the door

Knock, and hide!

And then the next Boo-er will need to pay it forward by putting the ghost on their door and bringing two treats to two different neighbors. 

I love seeing the ghosts popping up on doors all over our street and am so happy Tina introduced this fun tradition to us!

Scenes Around the Farm

This weekend, we headed down at my parents' farm in Western VA for the perfect combination of fall weather, good food and great company.

And since the pictures are good, and I am exhausted from staying up too late around the bonfire, I'll leave you with just the snapshots.
