What I Wore

A few weeks ago, Rachel asked: Aaand how do you stay so put together?

Here's the deal: If I am wearing sweatpants, I act like I am in sweatpants. I am not one of those fashionable work out clothes people. I have one pair of sneakers that I bought 4 years ago and I am thinking really hard about where they might be right now and I have no idea. I can't rock workout gear and feel confident and put together. So, I have to get dressed every morning.
My style is pretty simple and functional being that I am home with 3 boys all day. It is not too dressy but not super casual. There is nothing hip or experimental about it.
I shower at night and I have 3 different hair do's I can transform a wet bun into every morning. My make up routine takes about 5 minutes (but I never leave the house without it on). I always wear earrings and my nails are always painted.

To give a good example of my style, I documented the past week's worth of outfits to share.

Friday: It was rainy and kind of cool. And this is hair style #1 (seen the majority of the time. I have a 9 month old hair puller)

scarf: from Lauren/ shirt: Target/ Tank: Old Navy/ Leggins: H&M/ Shoes: Kev's aunt's store in NYC/ Earrings: Lila Sophia
Saturday: My brother's graduation. Wells was covering up the outfit in yesterday's picture, but this is what I wore.
Earrings: Gift/ Necklace: Target/ Dress: Loft/ Shoes: Jessica Simpson from TJMaxx
Sunday: This is the only pair of shorts I own, I usually wear a jean skirt with an outfit like this, but when Chelsie lived with us, she always looked so cute in shorts, so I am thinking about bringing them into my wardrobe.
And this is Hair do #2, which Bennett randomly hates. He always pushes the braid back behind my shoulder. And even though I've been wearing my hair in a side braid for 10 years, just the other day Cullen said "Mommy, if you are trying to look like Princess Elsa, it's not working because she has pretty blonde hair." Thanks, kid.
Scarf: Target/Sweater: Old Navy/ shorts: Gap/ Shoes: Target
Monday: Hair do #3 and a pretty new scarf from my friend Cate.

My makeup routine: aboundant amounts of under eye concealer, a little powder, neutral shadow, mascara. Done.
Sometimes I wear black eyeliner on the top lids too, but apparently not this week.
All drugstore brand stuff.
Scarf: Ann Taylor/ Necklace: Gift from my sis in law/ Shirt: Target/ Jeans: J. crew

Tuesday: I had pink eye and I couldn't see and I was grumpy..I wore jeans and a blue vneck from Target.

Wednesday: Looks fancy but feels like sweatpants?
Say hello to my best friend, the maxi dress (while shopping at Francesa's for something new, no luck.)
Dress: TJMaxx (I have it in red too)/ Earrings: Francesa's/ Pink Eye: Cullen's/ Little Fuzz Head on the floor: Mine/ Clutch: Rebecca Minkoff, a gift from my friend Cate (she is so good to me!) and proof that by the third child, you keep a diaper in the glove compartment and only bring a clutch  to hold your wallet, phone and chapstick with you everywhere else
Thursday: Cullen's pre-K graduation.
Dress and Belt: Old Navy/ Necklace: My future sis in law/ Earrings: Francesa's/ Also- my scarf collection.

So that is how I stay put together. It is worth taking the 20 minutes out every morning (usually while Wells naps and the boys are watching their morning TV) so I can get dressed and start the day on the right foot to seem like I have it all under control.

What are your go-to style secrets?

Love your outfit for Cullen's graduation! I think I might have to get something new for Trenton's graduation!

That brown scarf in pic #1 is amazing. Also, cate is the greatest gift giver of all time. We are lucky to have such a thoughtful friend!

I love this post almost as much as I love the fact that Bennett finds offense to the side braid! But seriously, if there ever comes a day where a scarf and under eye concealer aren't an option, I'll probably just give up on the day and try again the next.

Can I come to VA now? I think we need to sit outside in that beautiful sun and play with the littles and solve the world's problems.

I love your style! I've been wearing leggings a lot lately. I really have no excuse since I have cute dresses, capris, and tops. You are giving me some major motivation to actually get dressed (at least when we go out). Do you wear sweats when you are at home or do you get dressed for the day and stay like that until bedtime?

You have great style! I can relate to your sweatpants sentiment. My effort level lately has gone up a notch from skinny jeans and a boyfriend v-neck, and it feels really good when I manage to pull of something remotely cute.

LOVE that yellow scarf - so fresh and summery!
I love your style - your "everyday" style is like my "I'm dressing up today" style, lol! I usually wear black yoga pants (capri style for spring/summer. Athleta is my favorite brand) and a cotton solid color tshirt or tank from Target.
I do my makeup every day though. I never leave the house without at least some blush on!
So funny about the side braid - that's how I wear my hair 99% of the time (and have for as long as I can remember) but my kids now always make sure it's over my shoulder and tell me I look like Elsa :)

Now that I have stopped nursing, the last 10 pounds are finally going to wayside. I can't wait to look super cute in clothes again!. Haha. Yoga pants are my default when I am around the house but I always put on real clothes when out and about. My favorite thing to wear right now are Athleta dresses. Cute AND comfortable. :)

I agree with everyone. You're one stylish mom!

oh I love that purple paisley scarf! Question, when do you find time to paint and let your nails dry before someone needs something? That's my problem...I have chipped nail polish from 3 weeks ago, it's awful!

I wish I could dress like you do everyday!! But I am a "confident in work out clothes" kinda girl....it's convenient for me too since I do spend a lot of my day working out. I love all your outfits and especially the statement necklaces!

Simple but Classy!! I think you always look fabulously beautiful!!!

I also cannot mix workout gear and makeup. It just doesn't work for me. Workout gear is for when I don't feel like makeup. If I'm putting on eyeshadow and powder, then I'm wearing real clothes.

I can tell you were a teacher…you have the style!

Very cute! I absolutely don't leave the house in sweats and even SLEEP in my mascara, but jeans and a t-shirt or tank top are all I've got right now that fit. I used to dress up a lot more, but slowly, kid by kid, my style has gotten simpler and simpler (not in a good way.) You look great!

such a cute momma! and I'm with you, most days I need to actually get ready to feel productive...but I've been known to rock a pair of yoga pants, a t-shirt and flip flops and still feel incredibly productive by noon!

I love your outfits! I especially love how you use scarfs many times to dress things up. I think I may go shopping for a few scarfs too; they really make a difference.

Also, I love your hair, especially the cute braid look. Princess Elsa has nothing on you. She can't create the magic like you do for your three kiddos!

You're smart and I'm going to copy you. I'm inspired to create my own lineup of go-to 'dos and clothing pieces. I LOVE those sandals.
