Unfortunately, My Job Doesn't Offer Sick Days (And other things of note)

The past few days have been not so pleasant around here. Tuesday afternoon, a sore throat started creeping in (and not just from yelling at the TV Monday night during the Auburn game) and by Thursday morning, I was so frustrated with the pain and cough, I took myself to the doctor for a sick appointment for the first time since 2008. Of course, as these things go, I spent two hours at the doctor to find out that I need sleep and water. Thanks, Doc. Does that prescription come with a babysitter?

Speaking of babysitter, my mom has been a super hero. She watched Wells Wednesday morning so I could get some rest and watched W and Bennett while I was at the doctor. Bennett is going through this sweet attached to Daddy phase, but when Daddy is not around, attached to Mommy phase, and spent the two hours laying on the floor throwing a fit. I hope Marme had a giant glass of wine afterwards.

We started Wells on solids a few weeks ago and as you can guess for any baby with so many chins, it makes him incredibly happy.

***
Ah, the game. We let Bennett stay up through the first quarter and Cullen until halftime of the Auburn-FSU game. When C went to bed, it was 21-3 so you can imagine his disappointment when he found out in the morning we lost.
He watched the DVRed second half and then looked at me and said "It's okay Mommy, we tried really hard.... is basketball on now?"

We don't let the boys play on our phones, but C is allowed to 'check the scores' during football season. Unfortunately, he has discovered that basketball scores change quickly and there are even more games. The other day I actually had to scold him by saying "Chores before scores, Cullen!"

And that wraps up this week. On to a healthy weekend we go!

It's A Wonderful Life

I don't know what has gotten into me lately, but sometimes, I take at look at these three and just tear up over how blessed we are. Life lately has been really good (exhausting, but really, really good). And this weekend was just perfect.
On Saturday morning, the boys' school hosted a Breakfast with Santa so I put the boys in their amazing matching sweater vests (hand knitted by Sue) and we headed up to school. I was surprised by how okay Bennett was with Santa (he tells me every morning that our Elf 'isn't real') and of course, Cullen jumped right up there and started listing his Christmas wishes (A football, football gloves, a football stand, a football jersey...)
 Wells joined in too.
All he wants for Christmas are pants that fit his giant legs.
It was a cold, but beautiful day out and we weren't quite ready to go home after our visit with Santa, so we went up to Old Town and caught the end of the Scottish Parade. Since it was an unplanned outing, we made due with what we had in the car and C ended up in my vest.
Bennett loved the bag pipers, liked actually cried when we started walking away, which led to us staying way longer than we intended.

Then it was home for naps, followed by another great Auburn win (and now a trip to the National Championship!)

Sunday, we woke up early and made it to Mass, then walked out to snow! The boys were so excited. C doesn't remember snow from when we lived in NC and B's only experience with it was during our trip to Tahoe last year, so watching them light up at it falling from the sky was so amazing.

We were supposed to go down to my in-laws' in the afternoon, but decided to stay home because of the icy road conditions. To make up for not visiting Nana and Pop, the boys and I spent the afternoon making sugar cookies.

And that ended the recipe for a perfect weekend.

I truly have a wonderful life.

Sleep, Thanksgiving Part 2, Rollin'

Part 1: Sleep
I got 8 hours straight on Tuesday night, thanks to my Mom and Dad. I hadn't had more than two hours straight in weeks between the three boys and by Tuesday, I was extremely grumpy and frustrated. And since, as a mother, you want what's best for your children (even if they are 30 year old mother themselves), my mom offered to keep all 3 boys overnight. All 3! I felt bad, but the lure of a quiet, sleep-filled house overcame that guilt and off to the 'Tower' (my parents' condo just a few miles up the road) they went. Kev and I decided to go see a movie (Catching Fire- it was awesome, especially since I just re-read the book over the weekend, I was very impressed with the adaptation onto screen) and then I was promptly to bed at 11, woke up once at 3:45 in a panic because no one had been up, and then back to sleep until 7.
Truth: I feel like a new person. I was a better mom yesterday because of it.
I hope one day my boy's wives like me enough to let me return the favor.
Thanks, Mom and Dad.

Part 2: Thanksgiving, Part 2
We left my parents' farm after dinner on Thursday and continued another 30 miles south to my brother and sister in law's house to continue the celebration of Thanks with their kids, Kev's younger siblings and his parents.

Friday morning, we decided to go bowling

I love Owen's prep
And Scott's hop

After a lunch of Five Guys and antiquing with the girls, we had dinner and then sang Happy 22nd Birthday to Uncle Mike and ended the night with spirited game of Catch Phrase.
Saturday morning, we were off early to head home to see my best friend Bridget, her husband Aaron and their sweet girl McKenna, and then of course, there was the game.
The sunrise at Kyle and Pete's, if you like that sort of thing

Sunday, we lazed around and started setting up for Christmas.

Part 3: Rollin'
So we now have a turf field in our basement-basement (the lower 4th level of our house) and the boys are loving playing down there. Last night, we were hanging out playing football and Wells was laying on his tummy, and the POOF, on his back. He did it twice and the cutest part was how excited the boys were, especially Bennett. He was so proud of his "Baby Walls".
This turf was in my parents' old house. Who knew it would become the family heirloom?

And I think that catches us up on everything! Happy Thursday!

WAR EAGLE!!

WAR EAGLE!!!!!!
It is finally game day: Auburn plays tonight for the National Championship against Oregon. I have been anxiously waiting five weeks for tonight and can't wait to cheer my Tigers to victory. So put on your Orange and Blue and hope for a win or else I will be so sad, I won't be able to blog for the rest of the week.

It Is Never Too Early for Fooball Season

If you are a true Southern Lady, then you have a football team to cheer for year around. An NFL team or European Soccer Team does not count. A true southerner has a college team that they follow, not only during the season, but really all year long. My team is Auburn. My alma mater. The loviest village on the plains. The Heart of Dixie. The Home of Bo Jackson... you get the point- it is awesome.

As a true fan, I look forward to the spring evaulation of how our team will be in the fall. And lucky me, that preview is in. I will not bore you will the details, but to sum it up: Auburn is awesome, all other teams are not. To prove it, you can read an unbiased opinion here.

On that note, in the past 8 years (yowsa!) that I have been loyal to Auburn, the color combination of orange and blue has become a ridiculous passion of mine. Baby boy owns several orange and blue outfits and I have a separate folder in my saved pictures of rooms which are subcounsciously celebrating Auburn's spirit. Here are some of my faves:
