Official Mom Things

Is it weird that sometimes I don't feel like a real grown up?
I manage a household and take care of Tweedle Do and Tweedle Do while growing Tweedle Three. I've been married for six years, I have real furniture and a car full of stale cheerios and Thomas the Trains. Clearly, adulthood has hit me full force. But there are still some days where I really don't believe that I 29 and an almost mother of 3.

But then, there are other days, when I know I have hit Official Mom status.

I was in charge of snacks for Cullen's first t-ball game.

Wait, back that up.
Cullen, my very own child, is old enough to have a first t-ball game.

And I was in charge of the snacks. So I sliced up oranges and brought juice boxes.

Bennett sometimes only has two moods: hyper or tantruming. I called my mom to complain, because that it what you do in there situations and the conversation went like this:

Me: It is exhausting! Why can't we just sit and color? And on top of it I feel fat and gross and I didn't get any sleep last night, so literally everything they've done today has been annoying.

Mom: Now do you understand why I was cranky sometimes during your childhood?
This particular meltdown was over putting on pants.
Apparently, when I was 5 and just assumed my mom wasn't in a good mood, it was really because she was pregnant, and tired, and I spent the night in her bed kicking her in the face and then the entire day being annoying with my brother. It all makes sense now.

There is nothing more I crave right now than a really cold (large) glass of white wine.

I wore the same leggings and sweater two days in a row because no one saw me the previous day.

B has totally transitioned into a big boy bed.

B, not so subtly announcing that he is ready for bed
Cullen asked me "why those things up by the neck are getting so big?" And I had to fumble for answer (to make milk for our baby when he comes... Cullen: O, so they are like magic?...uhhh )

I know the theme song to Mighty Machines and sang it to Jenn via blog comment the other day.

I don't know what's going on in the news, but I can tell you the plot of Curious George's Swing Into Spring special.

But even on the days where I want to hit my head against a wall, or find it hard to believe that I am going to be in charge of 3 little people soon, I am so happy where I am and wouldn't trade it for the world. It is a blessed status to have.

Yes, official mom things are some of the best things. I do the same thing: wait, wasn't I just graduating from high school like last year? I don't feel a day older than 18.

This is hilarious! And no, not weird at all that you don't feel like a grown up... Sometimes I think I'm still like 19... Oh wait... I am married, have a daughter... and am in fact not in college anymore! haha! And I found myself singing the theme song to 'Bubble Guppies' for about 3 days in a row... What?!?! 'Bubble Guppies'?! haha! I love it though and there is nothing better! Official Mom Things! :)

I too am 29 but only have the one baby, but often I don't feel grown up. Not to say that I still think of myself as a teenager, but that 29 isn't old enough to have all this responsibility. Even though I've always been a very mature person and 29 really is plenty old enough for all this, some days it sneaks up on me that I am in charge of raising this little boy right.

Yeah becoming a mom puts everything into perspective that our moms are real people that had bad days where they were tired and what not! It makes me want to get her a really good Mother's Day gift!

Cullen is looking so big! He's going to be a little heart breaker for sure - what a handsome dude!
Sounds like you are kind of pro at "official mom things"!!

So many things I have to look forward to I guess as a Mom thing. ;) lol

Omg this cracked me up. Sometimes I look at these two and think, When is their mother getting home? I'm ready to bounce and have a drink. And then I'm like, OH CRAP I'M THEIR MOTHER. It is kind of a freaky realization. And you'd think it would hit you sooner. But then it doesn't.

And dude, in charge of team snacks? You are OFFICIAL. It seems to hit me every time I have to bring something for a preschool party. Or when some kid says, "Hey Sam's mom, can you xyz?" Or when I'm singing along to Mighty Machines, because that sht is catchy. ;)

This is great. Seriously I'm 27 and the other day this convo took place between my husband and I...

me: "I was 23 when I had Lidia"

him: "Are you going crazy? Youre only 24 right now... and she's almost 4, not even possible."

me: "BABE. We are BOTH 27"

him: "Wow. Im apparently living in my early 20's"

And he seriously thought we were still 24 haha! I always have to remind myself that I'm a mom, a wife, a caregiver, AN ADULT!

I love this post so much. Oh yes, and I've been reading for awhile but never comment... oooooops!

I agree, sometimes I sit back and think, wow I'm an adult and these little people need me...crazy! Or how you always call your mom for help and one day these people are going to be calling you for help, can I just say, go talk to Nana...haha!

I love this! Completely agree. I never craved wine or coffee before I was a mom!

This is a great post. I think these things all the time.

Cullen's lady pillow questioning is really funny to me!

Love this! We still have a hard time believing that we are responsible for raising little humans...

Kate thanks so much for your sweet comment and support. Sorry for the drama, I guess I let a handful of insincere people get the best of me, you know what I am talking about?

Anyway of course I truly love you and your blog, I am always so drawn to mom's who attempt every day to do their best and make a joyful life for their kids. Childhood is so short and should be full of love, magic, curiosity and neverending support.

And you're not alone, I am 39 and still have to remind myself I am a grown up.

love this post! I'm with you, I certainly don't feel like a grown up, but then some sort of "mom thing" will happen & I'll get a nice wakeup call that another human being is depending on me for everything!

Love the "things up around the neck" comment!

Soo funny! And that picture of the pants meltdown is epic. Lots for me to look forward to one day :)

Oh, I have to laugh. I think I've experienced most of the things you mention. I'm 37 and sometimes I still don't feel like an adult. I wear the same clothes twice, three times, and even four times in a row if no one sees me (sometimes with a wash in between), I know the theme song to Thomas the Train and Chuggington hands down. I get cranky too, but I can't blame it on pregnancy...hmmm...maybe just because I feel sleep deprived sometimes. I do love this list; it's wonderful to be an "official mom" isn't it?

I look back at when I was a kid and thought my parents were "old." Gosh, I'm really looking forward to that! ;)
