What I Want To Do This Month

I feel like October is the first 'normal' month we've had in a long time. With the past few months surrounding the move, then floating around VA and house hunting, moving in and getting settled, having a baby, figuring that out, and starting school/work, this is really the first month we are in a good routine and life feels like it is back on track.

Because of that, it is also the perfect month to set some goals.
Here is what I'll be working on.

1. Exercise.
But, my post partum honeymoon (I just had a baby! Bring on the wine! I'm not cooking, ever! I'm not allowed to do any heavy lifting!) is over and it is time to get healthy. So my goals are not too big this month and very manageable:
Walk 30 minutes at least 4 times a week.
I have no excuse MWF to not walk with Wells while the big boys are at school and I am sure I can get in one more on the weekends or evenings. This may not sound like a lot, but as a person who never actively chooses to work out over doing other things during my short integrals of free time, this is a start.

All my strength training will be done totting around Well's extra chin.

2. Read at least two books.
Since most of my world is in toddler-speak, reading keeps my mind active and reminds me that there are adult words out there too. Last month I read City of Thieves and 13 Reasons Why (City of Thieves was really boring and I didn't dislike 13 Reasons, but I wasn't in love with the writing style. The premise was certainly interesting and gets an important message across about how your actions are affecting other people, but I've definitely read better YA Fiction books. (It seems like a lot of you have read it, what did you think?)

Here is what I got from the library yesterday (and put several of the titles you all suggested on instragram on hold, thanks!).
I can fly through Dan Brown books, so I know I'll finish The Inferno. And I read The Passage last year, The Twelve is the second book. I think I'll have to re-read the synopsis of The Passage before taking this one on; I remember the plot being really complicated, but interesting nonetheless.
3. Book 4 photography jobs.
I have one on the calendar and would love some more. It is the perfect time of year for some gorgeous family photos, so sign up now!

4. Finish our Year 6 photo book.
I've made a coffee table book for each year of our marriage so far, except the last...which ended in March. If it doesn't get done this month, I will certainly end up two years behind.
I love seeing how our family has changed and grown throughout the years
5. Turn 30.
This is going to happen no matter what.
I actually remember my parents being 30 and that weirds me out. But also I remember my aunts and uncles being in their 20s and hanging out at our house all the time, so I am grateful that my boys will have those memories too.

6. Finish Wells' nursery.
Cullen, my mom and I are working on a little project this week and then I have one piece of furniture I need to find and his room will be complete.

What are you striving for this month?

PS If you are reading, but I haven't visited your blog in a while, leave me a comment! I never open my reader but do get back to emails and comments. It is the easiest way to stay in touch these days!

I love the idea of a yearbook, great memories. Beck does one for the boys each year. Wells is certainly growing, still looks like your Dad.

I love your yeRbook idea. As soon as I lose 20 lbs I will be in touch for pictures. Speaking of that my goal is to do Jillian Michaels dvd every weekday unfil christmas.

Great goals! I've been struggling to get back into an exercise routine, too, even though I really have no excuse not to do it. Walking is great exercise with a lot of health benefits people don't always think about. And after having just turned 30, I can honestly say it wasn't as scary as I thought! :)

Keep the chins a-comin'! Sweet Moses, you guys make THE cutest babies! My goals are to actually get a package in the mail to you before your birthday... I make no promises, but the intent is there. I need October this year. It's gonna be a good month for all of us, I can feel it :)

I love the photo books, such a great idea! I just did one for our first 5 years together. :)

I'm with you on hating exercising but knowing I need to do it. That hasn't helped my motivation lately though. I am blaming it on the upcoming move. That's pretty much my goal for the month - surviving the move!

Turning 30 is awesome. I don't really get the freak out about it by some (not saying you are freaking out) because really is there any place you'd rather be at 30?? I feel like I'm exactly where I had hoped to be in my 30s with my kids, husband, career, life, etc and am SO SO happy to be past my early 20s especially after working with college students so much. I do NOT wish to go back to that at all!!

Walking for 30 minutes 4 times a week may not sound like much to the average person, but as a fellow new mom of 3 young kids, it will be a huge accomplishment! It isn't easy to find the time, and when you do find it, it is always hard to make it a priority over the million other things on your to-do list! So good for you for making yourself a priority :)
And I can't wait to see Wells' room!!!

I need to lose the baby weight AND the extra weight that just happened because I like food...a lot.

I'm in a wedding next October and I want to be 30 lbs lighter. 20 left over baby weight (I'm only 3 weeks pp) and 10 chocolate pounds. :)

You need to find a walking partner! I think the weather should be a good motivator! (:

I can't believe you remember your parents being 30! I mean were they like 20 when they had you? (: My parents were 34 when they had me so I barely remember 40. (: I turned 30 this year too, I wasn't a huge fan, but learned to embrace the I don't look 30 so I'm good. (:

Love the photo book a year thing...=) I take so many photos a year I think it would be one massive book! I do shorter books with themes, or at least I try to...

I do a family yearbook too! It's so much fun to look back at! I'm with you on the walking. With this gorgeous fall weather there's really no excuse not to walk outside (or so I tell myself!). Not sure what I'll do when winter comes... Maybe walk in the mall (and end up shopping?).

Good for you setting goals! I really should do this but am afraid of failing miserably.

I think Wells is starting to look a lot like Bennett! I love that you listed goal #5. Turning 30 was surprisingly no big deal for me, now I'm facing 31 in a few days and for some reason that seems monumental. Like 30 was exciting but now I'm just plodding through my 30s.

I wish I could hire you as a photographer! Oh, long-distance problems...

I read 13 Reasons Why a few years ago. It was good, but not great. I get what you're saying.

Month goals are always a good idea. One of my is to really pick up my running as its the last month before my big race. Another one is to start knocking out some christmas shopping and husbands anniversary gift shopping done. I always wait till the last minute so im trying to get ahead.

What program do you use to make your coffee table books? I have done a few before for special occasions, but I want to start doing yearbooks for our family. I got the idea from another blogger and plan to start probably the year we got married through the year before Chloe was born (all in one book) and then make a separate book for each year going forward. I think it’s a great idea, but man is it a chore to look back and pick pictures! For 2014, my goal is to work on it month to month.

Just as I was getting into the groove of working out, my doctor told me I had to quit!

Are you on Goodreads? I'm constantly adding to my "to read" list. I just started "Always Watching" by Chevy Stevens the other night, and it's really good so far.

oh I desperately need to work out more! It's on my list...especially since all the foods this time of year and the next few months are so tempting & horrible for you!

My only goals are to get more packing done! And try to figure out how to break our lease without losing bookoo bucks, haha.
