That is the text I received from my mom late on Saturday night, and she was right to ask because after that Auburn win, a child would have definitely been dropped. Luckily, everyone knows not to let me hold anyone when the game is on.
WAR DAMN EAGLE
Y'all, it was mayhem at my house on Saturday night. Cullen literally peed his pants. My older brother knocked my sister in law over. I was jumping on my couch. Kev and our younger brothers were running around the living room. What a game! What a finish! What a season!
Kev turned to Cullen and said 'I hope so much that this is one of your first real memories.'

You see, when I chose Auburn 11 years ago, I had no idea how much a part of me it would become. I had never even heard of it until an online quiz suggested it as a match for me. I had never visited the campus and didn't know a soul who had attended school there. I knew nothing about college football, about the culture surrounding it and didn't really understand when some of my new friends informed me that they were "raised an Auburn fan". I remember telling my mom back then that they said it with the same conviction that someone up North would say "I was raised Catholic".
Now, all this time later, I still wear orange and blue on Saturdays. I am raising my kids to be Auburn fans. I get it. I've gotten the chills every time I've watched the highlights from Saturday night and imagined the elation that must have been happening when the fans rushed the field. I've clicked on every link, looked at every picture and read every article surrounding the win. Because, you see, it is more than just a football game. At Auburn, we refer to ourselves as the Auburn Family and the joy that comes from winning, from pushing on and cheering until literally time is out, can be felt between any person who considers themselves part of that family. And after this win, I think it is felt on a greater scale.
It's not just a place, it's not just a game. It is a 'spirit that is not afraid.' A group of people who pride themselves on loving Auburn, not just the wins. Who shout War Eagle in public and have it gladly returned by fellow fans. A connection that can be felt all over the world by people who are committed to 'doing justly, loving mercy and walking humbly with my God."

Quite simply, IT'S GREAT TO BE AN AUBURN TIGER!

I thought of you as I watched the game :) So awesome.
AMAZING GAME!!!!!!! I actually screamed so loud that Shelby started crying!!!! WOOOHOOO!
We aren't football fans and even we were watching the videos of it.
I am fearful my husband will convert our children into West Virginia fans. ;) However, he says only the boys can go to WVU. Girls are not allowed. lol
I definitely thought of you during the game!
(And thank you for EVERYTHING. The shout outs, the comments, the notes. It means so much. Truly.)
I love what Kev said to Cullen - I really hope he remembers that night!! Your family is just fantastic!
Haha I absolutely love this! :)
My husband graduated from Auburn and we lives there for 6 years! I LOVE Auburn and would move back in a heartbeat if the opportunity presented itself. War Eagle!
Saturday was quite a day for college football in general but that game was unbelievable!
Congrats on the win! It was definitely an awesome ending to a game!
Such a cute post! Regardless of the team, I love it when people are so passionate about their teams--and I'm always happy for them when a crazy win happens!
I have to say it was a pretty fabulous win on Auburns part!!!! It was a great game, and I missed the first couple minutes of the Gamecock / Clemson Game to see the end of that one AND Im not even a big football fan lol. Guess it rubs off on you when you live in a college town.
I really couldn't have cared less who won the game, but Christopher is an Alabama fan and Jenn is an Auburn fan so I support the team of whomever I'm talking to. ;)
I am not into college football (or sports at all - hey, I live in Minnesota, what's the point anyway?!?? They always end up sucking!) but even I was watching that game and it was pretty awesome! Would be so cool to experience a game - we want to go to one when we visit Alabama as part of our goal to see all 50 states :)
LOVE everything about this post. So true. And I love what Kev said to Cullen. My sister was AT the game (8 rows up from the field!) and she said people were crying and going NUTSO. (as they should) She also said that when people saw Bama fans afterwards, they kept asking them if they had a second. I don't know why, but I just think that's hilarious. It is SO great to be an Auburn Tiger! WDE!!!
My mom is a HUGE Bama fan, but I don't really have a team, so I ain't mad at'ya ;) I didn't know you could take a test to find out what team you should root for...pretty cool.
I love this post so much. It captures the spirit of being an
F.A.N. It reminds me of my love for the BRONCS! I love how it brings family together and memories to last a lifetime. :)
xoxo
My husband is a USC fan but you can bet your bottom he was cheering for Auburn. He was even jumping up and down with that win.
That game was awesome! The end though...I mean, what EVEN!? I actually thought of you when ! saw it because you are the only Auburn fan I know! Everyone roots for Washington or Oregon around here! HAHA! Great win...I love good football games!
That was an awesome game! And I'll definitely be rooting for Auburn in January. :)
Btw, did you hear today that both of our schools were fined $5,000 from the SEC for rushing the field? We were just excited to go to the championship, OKAAAAY?? Haha.
