It was just one of those days.
I called my mom yesterday afternoon to inform her that I didn't call for our usual 9am chat because the boys were being, more or less, annoying. I don't think I am supposed to call my children annoying, but that really was the best word I could come up with.

Cullen is about to turn 3. Yesterday, he told me this approximately 223904239084398 times. Then preceded to ask "what's I'm gonna bes next? And next? And next? And next?....Mommmmy, what's I'm gonna bes after I'm 37?". When he wasn't asking me his age for the year 2065, he was being very assertive, but not in an o good, you are a very confident and eager young man, it was more in a who is this temper tantruming, fit throwing, child demanding things from me? There was no please or thank you, no quiet playtime, no easiness. The sweetest thing he asked me all day was to 'get off da phone Mommy and watch mys new trick' and then jumped from the couch to the coffee table. Awesome, enjoy time out.
Meanwhile, his darling little brother was like a one of those yippie rat dogs who nips at your feet while you walk through the house (and I mean that in the most loving way possible). Bennett didn't take a good morning nap, so he was extremely needy all day, but didn't know what he needed. When he is in this mood, he crawls around the house, following me, trying to climb up my legs. When I pick him up he squirms away, trying to get down. Yesterday, we did this over and over, only stopping to tell Cullen how old he will be after he turns 52.
(All of this was exemplified by the fact that Kev and I were on Day 4 of The 7 Day Diet Detox and the only thing I could eat all day was bananas and yogurt, but all I could think about was eating wine-infused mac and cheese, scooped up with a tortilla chip.)

On the bright side for I'm grateful to be home with them, learning all the ways that they can be annoying, so when in 20 years they come to me with their girl problems (because boys always talk to their mothers about these things, right?) I can patiently explain to them why their girlfriend thinks they are being a pain in the ass.
And of course it was worth it at the end of the night, when Cullen came back down the stairs to tell me that he was "too sad tos go ta sleep cuz I'll miss you Mommy." Heart Melting. "Ands my feets are really sweaty, can yous wipe them off?" Heart molded back together. Go to bed Cullen.
Hello, Friday. Welcome.

HAHA! Sorry your day was so challenging but it makes for a really funny blog post, thank you Cullen!
I feel you. Some days I count the minutes until bedtime and then I miss her as soon as I close the nursery door. The days can be long but the months are flying by!
Oh my, what a day! They definitely have THOSE days, don't they? The pick-me-up-no-put-me-down drives me crazy though! Hope today is brighter :) xoxo! e
oh, we've all had those days....... and being "hangry" sure doesn't help. :) hope you have a much better day today!
oh wow sounds like one of those days! I don't have kids myself but I've learned a lot from my friends. I'm sure when the kids get all cute later, your heart melts and you forget all about their tantrums. Hope you have a stress-free weekend! x
God bless you for still using time-out. Cullen's future teachers will thank you, I'm sure :)
Hope Friday is better than Thursday!
Honey, let me know when that detox mess is overwith - I will find some way to send you wine-infused mac and cheese with tortilla chips!
(on a sidenote - and while I would be going batsmack crazy in those situations too - this post was hilarious in retrospect)
ahh. real life. ain't it grand?! I say we market that wine infused mac and cheese--dare we create the perfect food??
xoxo
Is it bad if these posts are my favorite!? This had me laughing the whole way through. Thanks for sharing real life moments :)
Love you!
What a day. My oldest niece tends to have an 'age' attiuitde often. It is somewhat her mama's fault though as she has taught that she is no longer a child at the age of 9 and now is a pre-teen. Anyways. I hope you don't experience another one of those type of days soon!
wine-infused mac and cheese, please continue to tell me about this!! and sweet boys sorry they were testing your patience yesterday but you were designed to be their Mom for a specific purpose, it isn't an accident Cullen and Bennett were born to you and Kev, and yipee it is Friday!
Ahaha love this!!! I'm sure I'll be referencing this story a lot in my years to come!
Toddler drama while doing a detox? Oh noes ;) And yes, I'd like the recipe for this wine-infused mac & cheese too please! I just got some red wine gourmet chocolate bars in a gift basket. Lemme know if you get desperate & I'll Fed Ex you a cheat treat :) Have a great weekend!
Ugh, sorry to hear that yesterday was rough. I hope today has gone more smoothly for you!
Okay so it's not funny, but the way you wrote about it sure is :) I'm thinking of getting "Awesome, enjoy time out" as my first literary tattoo.
I am literally laughing out loud...and now my husband is too! You are cracking me up:) I hope tomorrow is better!
I think we can describe our spouses as annoying sometimes (which I know at least I do) it's perfectly fitting to call our children annoying too sometimes. :)
You're cracking me up Kate! Would it be a bad thing for me to send you a box of chocolate (and mac n cheese maybe) so you can recover from your detox week? I'd send wine. (OBVS) but the postal service frowns on that for some reason. (??? Party poopers)
Also, that sweaty-footed Cullen is a little charmer, I can tell.
hahahaha .. I am a Nanny and I am certainly not suppose to call the girls annoying, but oh my bananas they are freakin irritating at times ... i feel like i might be going outta my mind .... Chrissi water no water chrissi yoghurt no no no yoghurt ... ok seriously Catherine you do need to make up your mind ... it's like that all day toodlers ! And yes it is not easy when cleansing ... i have been preparing for a liver flush this week and i really really needed a gin and tonic at the end of the day but oh nooooooo my cleanse won't allow it ... jut one more day though yippee ! Just think how clean and stunning you will be after ! Good luck xx
My My My, talk abt some craziness. I love the "awesome, go sit in time out" part. You def. Have some creative little ones on your hands.
At least your boys keep you active ... right? I guess that is looking on the bright side of things.

Hilarious. This post made my evening.
Hahaha you had me laughing at this post Kate! Oh your boys sound adorable and I completely understand everything you said. The joys of motherhood huh?
That is so cute and funny that he wanted his feet wiped off and how he jumped from the couch to the coffee table resulting in time out lol
How old did you feel by the end of the day is the question he should of been asking ;)
