I have to be up front with you today: I'm not a good Mom*.
You know, like all those moms on Pinterest. The ones who make Mater out of Peanut Butter sandwhiches and rainbow cakes and daily handprint artwork.
So attempts to not let the boy's brains rot away into the land of whatever-stay-at-home-moms-did-before-Pinterest, we got inspired to be a little more crafty and stocked up on supplies at Michael's to have on hand.
These capsules that turn into animals were a huge hit.
Look how patiently he waited for them to grow.
We bought a big pack of bubbles to keep us busy in the backyard. Cullen is so proud that he can do it himself now (he can't).

Bennett got crafty in his own right by avoiding putting his knees down on the concrete.
Must.Eat.Dirt.
Must.Eat.Dirt.
He since he doesn't have the motor skills to paint yet, he plays with kitchen utensils and empties our cabinets.
Also not craft, but it is a wild turkey in a tree in my backyard. Bet you didn't see that coming.
I love chubby baby feet (also unrelated to be a quality Pinterest Mom, but it was in the same picture folder and I realized I hadn't shared this shot yet).
Yesterday, we made a St Patty's Day Rice Krispy Treat.
And one morning we created 'Cullen Town' out of cardboard on the stairs. Cullen picked the things that go in his town: Target, the Toy Store, a car wash, the grocery store, the playground. We clearly don't get out
much.

much.
Although later, we did add the beach and the library (and that about sums it up).
But most days, this is us: bucket-o-randoms dumped on the floor. Bennett with an ostrich puzzle piece in his mouth.
Or the ever popular, take all the clean clothes out of the laundry basket so we can play in it.
I think that they will survive childhood just fine.
*Disclaimer: my motherhood is not actually threatened by Pinterest. But I do appreciate the inspiration to be a little more creative with the boys.
My motherhood is threatened by the pre-school moms who make better snack than I do.

Great post. The boys are too cute. I love tur pic of Bennett with his butt in the air, hehe
Oh my gosh, those water-grown animals! I loved them, some were so slimy and others so spongey (depending on which ones you got - I wasn't a tough crowd, they were all awesome).
Also love baby Bennett bum in the sky. There's one for the prom date.
And the wild turkey. I love a good non-sequitur.
I think your kiddos will be just fine. After all, your toddler is forward-thinking enough to include Target in his play town. :)
You are a great Mom! IIm pretty impressed with all of these activities and it looks like the kiddos enjoyed them! But there is nothing better than the laundry basket!
Hahaha....I see all the craftiness of Pinterest and think the same thing. It requires a bit more planning than I'm used to.
Anyhow, you MUST MUST MUST read this blog post: http://www.frommrstomama.com/2012/03/my-story-of-why-i-watermark-my-photos.html . I thought of you after I read it. You may want to place your watermark in a place that's not so cropable.
Also, will you pleeeeeeease get rid of the word verification on your comments? Here's how:
1.) Click on the gear icon under your profile picture on your dashboard page, and select "Old Blogger Interface."
2.) Then go to the "Settings" page and click on the "Comment" link under the tabs.
3.) Where you see "Show Word Verification", select NO.
4.) To get back to the newer interface, there is a link in the upper right hand corner on the older dashboard page.
You are basically running a Montessori school compared to what we've got goin on over here! Creative things Sam has been exposed to lately?
- the trash (well, recyclables)
- the dogs' water bowl (oops, mom-fail)
- watching the neighbor girl build him a "weed fort" (which is not nearly as illegal as it sounds)
- dumping random bin o' toys all over the living room
I LOVE the shot of Bennett's butt in the air! Lol
I think the kiddos have a pretty good thing going on here, and their smiles prove it!! I loved this post!:)
Haha this post is so cute! I love reading about your daily life with your little guys...especially while we're trudging through school, dreaming about the day we have little ones of our own! xoxo, eliza
I received many of those great mothering books over the years... all of which ended up in the trash can (recycle bin, sorry). They were Guilt Manuals - and only made me feel worse. I love pininterest photographs but never go there for the single reason that it makes me feel like a failure... and my family never gets the best of me when I'm feeling like that. :)
So... your bucket-o-random looks much like what my kids played with. Whenever the fancy toys or crafts came in, they lost interest in about 10 minutes. But random always spurred them toward creativity, which is a quality that'll keep them running long-term... and I mean until old age long-term. :)
The cabinet in my kitchen was emptied out daily for years, and I'd just cram all the tupperwear back in at the end of the day and wash it only when I wanted to use it. Something in me believes that laughter, silliness, and learning to be creative with real daily things and activities in our houses is the best childhood you can get. :) You go girl!!!
Those pictures are lovely and cuteeeeeeeeeeeeee:) I love this post..:)
You are an awesome mom for sure! I loved those "grow an animal" capsules when I was little.
Oh I think they are having a great time! I love that baby booty sticking up!
I might steal your idea for St Patrick's Day Rice Krispie Treats. I am a bad mom and haven't put out one green thing or done one activity for the holiday. We will be lucky if we hit McDonalds for Green Shamrock shake this year.
I remember doing the little capsules as a child and I think I turned out just fine! I think most importantly it's the QT you spend with you children that matters. Those are the things they will remember. xoxo A-
I was legitimately laughing outloud while reading this post. Bennett's yoga moves are out of this world. Also, judging from the looks of Cullentown, we need to get him to NYC as soon as he is able. As a 20 something without children, I just assumed you covered your house in white paper and let them roam free...I was misinformed.
well you look like a great momma to me! it has to be tough entertaining 2 young ones :)
have a great day!
Aw, they are so cute! I think they are going to be ok!! :-) You do so much with them!

They are just the cutest! How fun do all those crafts look!
That baby feet picture is TOO cute. I love chubby baby feet, too. :)
