A few weeks ago, I shared my version of 'A Day in the Life' with Eliza over at Case Study. And since it is really hard to follow up with the cuteness of Bennett and Sophie's Love Story, I figured I would ease back in to normal life by showing you a real glimpse of our day around here.
**********
6:30am: Wake up to my alarm. And by alarm I either mean a babbling baby from across the hall or a toddler in my face, poking me and asking, 'Mommy, is it time to go downstairs now?'
{editor's note: Hubs and I take turns waking up with the boys. This day is an example my turn. When it is not my turn, I sleep in...til 7:15. On really busy days, hubs gets up at 5:30 to study for 3 hours before class and I take care of the boys.}
6:35am: Pour coffee. That is first on my list. We set the timer at night so that there is never a chance of coming downstairs before it is brewed. I drink half a cup at a time because I only like it really hot. No cream or sugar for this lady.
6:37am: Make a bottle for Bennett. Pour a glass of milk for Cullen. Turn on Curious George. Check phone to see if there are millions of comments and adoring new fans on my blog. {One great thing about the West Coast, you East Coasters allow me to wake up to comments- I love it!}
8:00am: Hubs is off to work, which is actually grad school for really complicated math systems. My studly hubby is an incredibly smart and talented Army officer.
| Cullen helping Kev with homework. |
8:45am: Take Cullen to pre-school (we did get dressed somewhere in here and I put on some makeup so I don't scare people in public. I have a strict no sweatpants outside of the house rule). Return home for Bennett's morning nap. Allow 30 minutes to check email and blog roll. Start cleaning house.
| Here is why it is a mess. Constantly. |
10am: Bennett's up and it is time to do whatever we need to do before picking up brother. Grocery store, errands, baby play dates, more cleaning/laundry folding, talk to my mom on the phone for at least 30 minutes, go on a walk and take pictures to add to my photography shop.
12pm: Pick up C from school, rush home before Bennett falls asleep in the car. Make lunch for two boys. Play for a while. Attempt to get them both down at 1. Bask in the sweet glory of two sleeping kids. Do more dishes, fold more laundry, figure out what we are going to make for dinner. Text my mom. Thirty more minutes are allowed for emails and blogging. A few more spare minutes if I have a good book to read. I try to read a little bit everyday so my mind doesn't turn to toddler-phrasing mush. Check in with hubs to see if his brain hurts yet.

4:30pm: Start cooking. Put B in the highchair with a snack. Put C on the counter to 'help'. So lots of counting and measuring and talking about where food comes from.
Sometimes, I send them out to play so I can actually make dinner, but always keep a watchful eye through the window.
5:30pm: Pick up Kev from school (we only have one car here).5:45pm: Eat dinner as a family. Talk about our days. Indulge in a glass of wine.
6:15pm: Kev takes boys to bath. This is there special time of day with Daddy, I do not get involved. I do more dishes (seriously, where do these dishes keep coming from?) and fold more laundry. I get said laundry upstairs and sorted. We take one boy a piece and get them ready for bed.
6:45pm: I give Bennett his last bottle of the day while Kev takes Cullen downstairs for dessert and one show.
7pm: Kev and I sit in the sitting room and talk about our days while C is in the living room watching Curious George. This is one of my favorite parts of our day.
7:45pm: Cullen to bed. We brush teeth, read two books, say prayers and lights out.
8pm: Kev heads to the office to study for the remainder of the night. I clean up anything else that has been missed during the day and sit down to edit pictures, read any blogs I skipped, answer emails and craft tomorrow's post. I pick up whatever book I'm working on and read until about 10:30. Hubs comes in and we talk or watch a show on the DVR until 11. Then we head up to bed before starting it all over again tomorrow.
And that is about it. How do you spend your days?

Our days are eerily similar! Steve handles bath time for Sam (we just don't (?) bathe Molly that much yet...). I tell him that he's just so darn good at giving him baths that I'd hate to throw a kink in the schedule. ;) Sounds like your end-of-day glass-o-wine is well-deserved!!
Great minds think alike- I just made notes about our day a few days ago and wrote a post like this. I can't wait to share it! I also drink my coffee black. I actually can't stand it with sugar! I hear you on the dishes. I feel like I can never get the sink and dishwasher empty! We also share a car. It's nice to only have one vehicle but man it can be a pain sometimes too. It sounds like you and Kev have a great system down when it comes to your evening routine. Teamwork is the only way you can get everything done!
Phew! You are a super woman!!
Wow! I love that you can sell your photos! I would love to do that at some point, but I wouldn't even know where to begin!
Hi kate! I loved reading all about your day, it's funny how women all over the world lead very similar lives to one another.
I love that pic of the boys and their blocks, both have something in their mouths lol (why do kids eat everything?)
Cute bath pic, gorgeous smiles!
I love reading these type of posts!! I think I may do one of my own soon! And I totally talk to my mom at least 4 or 5 times during the day:)
Goodness gravy girl you two have it down to a science.
I can't wait until I can send Liam out to play while I cook. We're still in the hanging on my pant legs trying to climb up while I cook stage :)
Kate,
Oh My STARS! Your babies are ADORABLE! I am so glad we found each other's blogs!!! :)
Monterey, CA is one of my favorite places - I love the pic of the seal!
Take care new friend,
Maggie :)
Now that's a routine. I'm impressed you're able to limit your internet time. That would be a challenge for me.
I love reading this post! You really jam it all into a day, don't you? Right now I am working but when we move to VA I'm going to stay home and have been wondering how I'll structure our days. This helps! Now if only you could help me find a good preschool :)
Good for you for the whole coffee black thing, I've tried. Can't do it! You work so hard!! I bet all of your guys appreciate it and I'm glad you get some time in there for you. You deserve that!
I love reading these types of posts to see how other moms get through their days! Isn't it crazy how laundry and dishes and tidying up are NEVER ending!! I can only imagine it will get worse for me once baby #2 arrives! :)
I loved getting to see the inside to your day. I was exhausted just reading this!!
Love there huge smiles in the last photo. Is that a seal? Defiantly not a otter.
Love love love your no sweatpants rule! I'm gonna steal it. West coast time is the best for blogging. I go through my Reader over breakfast. You're a busy lady! (however underage you may look :)
Sounds wonderful, I can definitely relate. My kids are in school all day now so I am able to get much done during the day. I love prepping dinner during the day so at night I can help with homework and run kids around.
What a hard worker your husband is, he sounds awesome!
Your day sounds so similar to mine...... good stuff!
Wow your day is exhausting just to read about and makes me feel like such a slacker. I really need together more organized for my kids. You are inspiring me.
And I love the no sweatpants rule you set for yourself. I should try to put that into my rules.
Our days are soooo similar!!!
You are a busy lady! Your boys are adorable :)
